Beautifully detailed and unmatched in the industry, the
Graupner USS Lassen Arleigh-Burke Class Destroyer is one of our Premium Line of
historical ships that will not disappoint you.
Arriving Almost Ready to Run, the motors and rudder servo are already placed,
and only the radio and electrical system need be installed before the boat is
water-ready. For reliability,
performance, further telemetry and model-specific function expansion we highly
recommend a Graupner radio such as the mc-16.
The Graupner Premium Line ships are carefully handcrafted
and assembled using CNC processing to replicate the model as originally as
possible. The hull is made from molded GRP complemented by the superstructure
and deck which are constructed from laser-cut ABS parts. Many of the small
items are made from metal, and almost everything is factory-assembled. The
hull, parts of the superstructure, the masts and fittings are spray painted
using semi-matt paints. Decals are already applied. With so many details and scale
fittings, the Premium Line ships all have an impressive scale appearance.
Named for Admiral Arleigh Burke, the most famous American
destroyer officer of WWII, the Arleigh Burke class of guided
missile destroyers is the United States Navy's first class of
destroyer built around state-of-the art combat systems and PESA radar.
The USS Lassen was named for Commander Clyde Everett Lassen
who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for his courageous rescue of two
downed aviators while commander of a search and rescue helicopter in Vietnam. This ship is the 32nd destroyer of its class;
construction began in 1998 and she was launched in October 1999. In
February 2009, the Lassen collided with a 14-ton anchored Japanese pleasure
boat in Yokosuka harbor. Though the four people fishing on the pleasure boat were
reportedly uninjured, the Japan Coast Guard filed a case against both the
destroyer's and the fishing boat's captains with local prosecutors for
professional negligence that endangered traffic.
Since, the Lassen has assisted in the recovery of the
South Korean corvette ROK Cheonan in 2010 after it was attacked by
North Korea. It also served as part of the U.S. force sent to the Philippines
to aide survivors following the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan. Most recently the Lassen has drawn headlines
patrolling navigation missions in the South China Sea along the of Subi
Reef, one of seven artificial islands built up by China in the Spratly
Islands, directly challenging for the first time since 2012 China’s claims of
the island's territorial limit. It
recently left the U.S. 7th Fleet for its new homeport at Naval Station Mayport,

Model is of high quality and great details. Some parts were missing when delivered. I emailed and call Graupner. I had a follow up within an 1/2 hour to get details of missing items and sincere apology. I was assured that replacement parts will be shipped ASAP. That is great service.
