As one of our Premium Line of ships, the H.M.S. Prince of Wales is beautifully detailed and unmatched in the industry.  Arriving Almost Ready to Run, the motors, electrical system and rudder servo are already placed, and the only the radio need be installed before the boat is seaworthy.  For reliability, performance, further telemetry and model-specific function expansion we highly recommend a Graupner radio such as the mc-16.

The Graupner Premium Line ships are carefully handcrafted and assembled using CNC processing to replicate the model as originally as possible. The hull is made from molded GRP complemented by the superstructure and deck which are constructed from laser-cut ABS parts. Many of the small items are made from metal, and almost everything is factory-assembled. The hull, parts of the superstructure, the masts and fittings are spray painted using matt colors. Decals are already applied. With so many details and scale fittings, the Premium Line ships all have an impressive scale appearance.

One of the most modern battleships of the British Royal Navy during the Second World War, the H.M.S. Prince of Wales was a King George V class battleship.  It was the most modern battleship at the time, measuring 227.12m long by 31.45m wide, large enough to hold up to 1600 servicemen.

Construction on the Prince of Wales begun in 1937 and in August 1940, while still in drydock receiving fittings and in a semi-complete state, the ship was hit by a bomb dropped by German aircraft during an attack.  Six feet of the port side was destroyed, shell plating buckled, and since the pumping system had yet to be installed, severe flooding ensued.  Despite the setback, construction and repairs continued, and in May 1941 the Prince of Wales was deployed to accompany the battlecruiser H.M.S. Hood to the Atlantic in search of the German battleship Bismarck.

Although the Prince of Wales and the Hood were successful in preventing the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen from breaching the Atlantic, fire from the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen was concentrated on the Hood due to its known design flaws eventually the ship was sunk.  Since the Prince of Wales was not fully operational it was damaged and the operation was aborted by the captain, leaving the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen to be chased by other Royal Navy ships.  Later in 1941, after extensive repairs, the Prince of Wales was moved to Singapore where she was to join part in a fleet of battleships to disrupt Japanese transports.  Japanese submarines spotted the British ships and an air and water began.  The Prince of Wales was sunk by this barrage of bombs and torpedoes, making her the first capital ship to be sunk solely by naval power on the open sea.
