So far I'm super impressed about the functionality of the controls and how everything can be taylored to your preference. Ease of use and customization of the controls is fantastic and future able updates make it a breeze to get the latest software. This controller will rival the Sanwa M12S and the Futaba 4PX no problem except at a 1/3 less the cost. Not to mention receivers are well priced at $25-$45 for a 4ch 3ms capable rec. For the money $379 shipped it includes a lipo and a hard carrying case plus a 4ch 3ms rec.

I have had the radio for three weeks. I have bound it to qty. (5) GR-4 receivers that are about a year old with out any problems. None of the receivers have had their firmware updated. In order to bind the radio to a year old GR-8 receiver I had to update the firmware on the receiver only. Using the radio I have raced my TLR 22 3.0 SR with a GR-8 receiver, HGM SST BBMG servo, GM 17.5 motor and a GM-GENIUS 120R +T ESC. It's nice to be able to immediately see what your max motor temperature is after your run. It's also nice to be able to adjust brake force, drag brake, etc. from the transmitter. After running it for one race I did install the angled steering wheel mount. So far it's seems to be a great radio. I did cut a heavy duty custom touch screen protector that is made out of a tablet screen protector. Setting up the telemetry ESC was fairly easy. I do wish that the Graupner website had step by step instructions on how to set up the telemetry. It's not impossible to figure it out your self, but some good instructions would make it much easier. The throttle trigger feels much better than the trigger on the X-8N.

You won't be disappointed!
I have had the X-8e for a month or so, and used it in 3 races. I am very impressed with the array of features, and the price. I don't think there is another radio out there that can beat the combination of quality, features and price. I adjusted the trigger brake stop all the way in to get the feel I was used to from my previous radio and spent some time setting up the switches and buttons. I also ran into a learning curve with profiles and timers, so I am including a writeup I did on RCTech.net about this.

Good stuff !!
Great radio system !! Easy to bind and program with a vast amount of settings including lighting and control wheel adjustment. The screen is very good with bright colors and adjustable sensitivity. Built in stylus if you prefer that to your finger.
The system comes with a very nice case and lipo battery too! This system is a tremendous value for the cost. You will not be able to find anything better in my opinion. Read about the features and decide for yourself.....you will not be disappointed !!

So far So great
I got my controller about 2 months ago from Tower Hobbies. The carrying case was dented when I got it. Not a big issue but I did pay a lot. The radio was in perfect condition still. I have been to about 3 races with my new controller and haven’t had any issues with it.
The controller feels good. It took a little bit to get used to it just because it wasn’t my old x-8n but after I got it set up it feels pretty comfortable. The trigger still feels strange sometimes but it isn’t a big deal for me. I initially thought it was top heavy but I got used to it quickly.
I decided to get decals for my controller. They went on very well and fit nicely. I thought it looked better without all the decals on so I only put the ones I wanted on. It is a nice looking radio though.
The user interface is great! It took some figuring out because the manual is the typical barely finished manual that I have come to expect from Graupner. It covers all the basic functions but leaves out some of the more advanced stuff and smaller details. Otherwise the menus are easy to navigate and the response is great. I have seen 0 issues with using any functions and no lag as I navigate the menus. My only complaint is that I have to restart the controller when I switch models.
The telemetry screen is less than spectacular. Data is split between 2 screens and there is no way to automatically go straight to the esc telemetry screen. The screens are boring to look at. It would be nice to see data displayed more like my x-8n did. There is an extra screen that asks you to select the device before viewing the data.
The screen is easy to read even in sunlight. The voice callouts are nice but they are hard to understand during the race because the voice is not very clear and uses overly complicated terminology such as “temperature 1 maximum temperature”. It would be much easier to listen to a callout saying, “esc overheating” while I’m in the middle of a race.
Overall it is a great radio with a little room for improvement. 4 stars until the little thing I mentioned are fixed.
